Newtown School is an Erasmus+ Accredited School. This programme runs until 2027.
Erasmus Applications 2025/2026
Newtown School has been involved in Erasmus Programmes with several European schools since 2018 and in 2022 we became an Erasmus+ Accredited School. In the last three school years we have visited and/ or hosted schools (students and teachers) from France, Austria, Czechia, Finland, Italy, Poland Portugal and Iceland in our Erasmus Accredited School programme and in our Erasmus Cooperative Project. Erasmus grants have also funded teacher training in a diverse range of subjects. “Invited experts” funded through Erasmus, have visited our school to work with students and staff.
Our experiences have enhanced the development of our students academically, socially and emotionally, helped us develop new international friendships and enhanced teaching, learning and digital skillsets as well as opening up a diverse range of opportunities in developing cooperative education experiences across a range of European countries (both in person and online).
As a school we now need to complete the application for funds for the next school year. It is important requests are realistic and are aligned with actual numbers of students/ staff who actually participate in the school year.
If you would like to be considered for Erasmus mobility (trip) places in the 2025 -2026 school year, you must complete your application form now (Annual school applications for funding are made by Newtown to our National agency in early Feb. 2025).
If you would like to host visitors from other schools rather than traveling on a trip we would also like to hear from you! We are keen to follow the Erasmus priorities of Inclusion and Diversity and to this end we sometimes need extra hosts e.g. if there are not enough spaces in boarding or where day pupils may not be in a position to host.
Factors to consider before applying:
Please ensure that as a parent(s)/ guardian your child is happy/ available to participate for mobilities and that you have discussed with relevant family members.
If you are aware that there are specific times you are not available to travel because of other commitments e.g. exams/ competitions please provide as much info about this as possible in the application form.
It is your responsibility to ensure passports and EHIC are up to date.
Please use student’s names AS PER Passport!
Should you require further information before applying ON THE LINK BELOW please email [email protected]
Newtown School Erasmus+ Mobility Stories.
Rhiana, one of our fifth year students is almost at the end of her Long Term Erasmus Plus mobility at Hosting organisation. She is the first of our students to visit Czechia.
Organisation name: Gymnázium Hladnov, Ostrava, Česká republika.
A fifth year student, aged 17 who has previously participated in a group mobility in third year and a long term mobility in fourth year. She is now keen to explore other European countries, build cultural awareness, with a possible view to studying abroad at a later stage.
This mobility serves as an opportunity to experience living with a Czechia family and attending a Czechia school, travelling around in Poland and Czechia as well as learning about the countries culture.
It is hoped that having experienced this mobility that Rhiana might be more confident about participating in an Erasmus programme in Third Level and might also consider working in other European countries in the future.
This trip also gives the student a chance to learn a little of a completely new language (developing multilingualism as a student and to bring some of the language learning back to our school community).
Rhiana hopes to learn some vocabulary, and phrases that could be useful in a European setting.
This student is leading the way for our school in taking the initiative to explore and participate in the European Education Area thus exploring how Senior Cycle students in Newtown School can participate in education and training & develop a European perspective of education.
Participation will boost basic and transversal skills, encourage more mobility and cooperation opportunities in our school community, support lifelong acquisition of language competences.
By total immersion, evaluation and feedback about her educational experience in other member states she is helping shape European Education Area. (The European Education area is based on freedom for learners and teachers to learn and work across the continent and for institutions to freely associate with one another in Europe and beyond.)

In addition to bringing an accredited school in September 2022 along with six other partners, we officially started our activities in an Erasmus cooperative project.
An interesting part of Development of our Erasmus programme in school is the introduction of Etwinning projects where teachers and students can collaborate using Twin Space on a variety of curriculum related topics.
One of these projects this year focus on Food Preservation to prevent food waste where Newtown is collaborating with school in Brod (Croatia), Wormhout (France), Adana (Türkiye), Panorama (Greece) and Bologna (Italy).
