School Life

Extra Curricular Activities

Newtown School is much more than a 9am to 4pm school. Our students, both day and boarding, are actively encouraged to take part in numerous extra-curricular activities provided on and off site. A variety of interests are catered for, ranging from Orienteering to Linguistics.

While students have enjoyed many successes in a variety of sports and activities both as team members and in individual events, in line with our Quaker ethos, we value participation over achievement.

Student Council

The Student Council helps to represent the students’ voice in the running of the school. The council has 24 members nominated by the students and they are joined by the Head Girl and Head Boy from the Prefects Council. There are two liaison teachers who facilitate and guide the council.

The council meetings are held regularly and they follow the procedures of a Quaker meeting for business with the sense of the meeting directing the decisions to be made. The Chair and Secretary of the Student Council will bring matters to the attention of the Principal and other Staff regarding their suggestions and queries.

Each year group nominates council members from 4 constituencies within the year. Boarder Girl, Day Girl, Boarder Boy, Day Boy.

Nominations for the Student Council take place on the final day of the Summer Term in June. The new council takes up its role at the start of the school year.
